Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty National Symposium

Celebrating the Freedom of Expression and the Press international Day, coinciding with the
Information and Communication Sciences Department anniversary, Biskra University
Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty organised a national symposium entitled “The reality
of information practice in the light of international crises”, on 4th May 2025. The Faculty’s
administration, headed by the Faculty Dean, Pr Belkacem Missoum,

with Biskra State Culture Director, Mr Bachir Azzabi, the University’s Information Officer, Ms Shahrazad Othmane,
and University representatives attended the event. It began with the Department Head speech,
Mr Merghad Bachireddine, reviewing the meeting objectives and academic dimensions,
before the official opening by the Faculty Dean, praising the great efforts made by the
department teachers, expressing his gratitude to those who contributed to its construction. The
minute of silence and the Al-Fatiha reading in memory of the late Pr Najib Bekhouche was
moving as he was one of the department pillars and one of its first founders. This tribute was
in recognition of his great scientific and pedagogical efforts. He was not only a founder, but
also a model of sincerity, generosity and dedication at the University service. Pr Samia
Djeffal statement was an honorary speech as she was one of the first discipline teachers,
where she displayed the Department historical stages and praised its pioneers. The symposium
programme included high quality interventions by the department teachers discussing the
information practice challenges facing international crises, as digital transformations,
epidemics and wars, with the need to develop media performance in Algeria in line with the
requirements of the stage. The symposium concluded with a tribute to the department elite
teachers in a gesture of appreciation and loyalty for their academic and pedagogical efforts as
a Biskra University recognition and gratitude.
